I Can Only Imagine

about

Alev Ha'sholem is something my Grandmother really did say about other people who died, that we now say when thinking of her: "May Peace be Upon Her".

Among the branches
light of morning
rising pink, in the sky
quiet glory, all around us
where we live, where we die
I don’t want to be going away
Here is where I’ve wanted to be
light lasts a minute or two
and becomes even more beautiful
before our eyes

My grandmother, Alav ha'shalom
passed away, years ago
certain people, always dear to me
I hope they know
I never knew about time
It never was as fixed as it seemed
& only lasts as long as it does
and what once seemed
unimportant means
much more to me

When night is falling, and in the quiet
sounds of day, fall away
All of history, and in reflection
the events of our days
beauty of places we’ve seen
love of the people we’ve known
precious to live in the world
and alive to know what it meant to me
to be with you

Beyond this moment
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
