A Little Bit More

When we all
are gone
but the plastic in the sea floats on
there’ll be more
--just a little bit more

Where there once
had been towns
under forests will be rubble mounds
and more
just a little bit more
somewhere a memory
of a man who loved a woman
in the Taj Mahal
some scraps of paper
from a book might tell a story
if there’s life left at all
and voices singing ancient songs
and calls to worship
‘neath the vaults of gold
empty silos
hold the reasons for the future
of a death foretold

A hundred years
in the past
a few things from that time still last
some more--just a little while more
lines of railroads, types of beer
and there’s quite a few churches still 'round here
and more--a little bit more
Shimmered sunlight
as it sparkles on the water
on a summer day
a winter moon
above the glowing snow reflecting
back the lunar grey
towers of stone
and the iron bars of prisons built with slavery
fields of poppies
and the ones that lie beneath them
for eternity

If we could only see
what would we want to see
After we’ve been gone 5 ,000 years

Azure blue
open space
the sweetness I find in your face
always more, always more
Simple now
Simple then
Why don’t we just begin again
some more, just a little bit more
just a little bit more
