When We Believe Again

about

Ignoring the cautionary tale of the great British pop singer, Adele, who is going to be fine, but who hurt her voice this fall, I ravaged my voice in an undisciplined extended and thoroughly committed version of Prince's "Purple Rain" with Rob D. and Fongster 100 and Felix at the Open Mic last Thursday night. It was almost worth it. But an unexpected benefit was the raw hoarseness of the vocals in this track, achieving a deeper and raspier relaxed quality usually only available to smokers, of which I am not one of their number.

See what you think. I hope the relaxed quality sticks, and I lose the hoarseness, but it's ok for now and may be a preview of my vocals 15 years from now with any luck.

When We Believe Again
Music and Lyrics by Michael Alan Silverstone 11/14/11 ©2011 Mr. Silverstone Music Publishing/ASCAP

I walked alone
taking in an aching heart
that held me down
like boulder stones
and weighted down my shoulder bones
I sure had doubts back then

Time may send you
what you want
but until that day
Keeps on moving on
have you got the strength
to pretend that you know
'til you believe again

When we have reached
the ends of--surrender
may something new
then get sent
down to you

[instr. verse]

It may be we best belong
somewhere new
but right or wrong
I trust I’ll feel it like a song
when we believe again
as we believe again
when we believe
again
