To Change Your Life
Words and Music by Michael Silverstone

When we were young
and trembled helpless in the face of all
uncertainty
and woke afraid
as if it hurt to be denied
what has no name
The glow of sun
between the trees
arising in the morning
ticks and clocks in memory of time
--a joy could change your life

And later on
when we begin to form the habits
that define our days
and then believe
that all the limits to our
happiness are real
we make a place
with bits and parts
--the fantasies of glory
holding out a hope for come what may
--a joy to change your life

If you got a gift
you could still give it now
there’s better ones to give than receive
that make the moments that last
even after they leave
--with joy to change your life

The birds appear
and they go searching out their music
as they find themselves
and hop around
we watch them flutter in the air
and come back down
finding seeds that keep alive
what overflows in springtime
looking in the morning after night
--for joy to change your life
