Through Your Hands

by Michael Silverstone

/

about

Hard to explain exactly, but I did see this fire, in the middle of the day, literally a Burning Bush in the desert of big box store congested rush hour and it rattled me and made me wonder.

There’s a fire
in the bushes by the laundromat
smoke, quickly blackening the sky
while all the traffic rushes by
—all the traffic rushes by

There are words
that you don’t believe you’ll ever say,
and jobs
that you don’t think you could do
you take the world in through your hands
you take the world in through your hands

Because you know
what you’ve come looking for
and you’ll know
when you are there

There’s a song
that they’re singing in the afterglow
with words that no one else can hear
you take your world into your hands
you take your world into your hands
—today
