about

When the next James Bond movie comes out, and it is about a sensitive and self-reflective side of Bond we haven't seen before, and they ask me for a song, I'm ready.

Came up with the melody when jamming with my way cooler musical (and other) ideas than me son, and subsquently wrote the words during a one week winter storm that knocked out power to our hometown and environs for a week. For me, its about the feeling of being thrilled by making music.

Started the day completely flattened against the ground by listening to Prince performing "Purple Rain" in Syracuse in 1984, and then Adele singing "Someone Like You" on a British TV show. I think that must have helped me write this somehow.

Stirred, Not Shaken
Music and Lyrics by Michael Alan Silverstone

I was shocked and I was shaken
to discover how mistaken I was
When I stopped and I retreated
my plans were all defeated at once
But then I--
began to feel it more strongly
maybe rightly or wrongly
I was sure I knew what I wanted
and as time--
keeps moving on I’m getting gladder
nothing else has ever mattered to me
any more than this at all

I like to write a lot of letters
‘cause on paper I can know my mind
and I wake early in the morning
‘cause I love to be alone at that time
But I--
would like to live my life better
and be a real go-getter
yeah, that’s what they would say about me
But that I—
am good to go where fate has led me
and don’t even find it tempting
what I’d try to get to get to be

I’ve made mistakes and wasn’t ready
and there’ve been
times that I’ve been taken to task
and there’s things I know instead we
could have done
if I’d had the nerve to ask
But this time—
I’m gonna let it all go now
‘cause no one we know could know how
to always work our wills and win
And I know—
I’ve often sadly been mistaken
it’s best to be sirred but not shaken
and that’s the way I’d rather begin

Take a load
half a load then half a load more
That’s the way you do it
when you know what you are doing it for
Take a load, take a little bit more. . .
