There are times
I had to make it right
but I get overcome
preoccupied at night
I’ve been
an idiot at times
I know what I should know
but can’t control my mind
so when the station comes
I can’t get off the train
I’m stuck on the express
while stops fly by the panes
I get myself involved
and too upset to wait
while watching it go past
again and again and again


And everyone
and everywhere
and everything
we ever cared
about this way
we’ll always say
and every time
we ever thought
we ever knew
what we were taught
we’ll learn again
and where we end
is where we will re-start


So now
I see how I was wrong
and know the way we were
and knew that all along
wish now
I could travel to the past
knowing what I know
and convince myself at last
how consequences come
to remember that they do
and follow from the days
that accumulate and grew
and gathered over months
and gathered over years
until it has to be
unavoidably immense
as it appears

And everyone

about this way

we ever knew

You know
a lot of times we climb
using up the now
on what feels good at the time
And so
in times we are afraid
we put off what we need
and then it gets too late

I know now what was done
and have tried to understand
the way we cut and run
but now I think it more
important nonetheless
and now I feel it more than I have
ever been able to express
