about

Have been studying these lyric writing techniques by Pat Pattison who teaches at Berklee College of Music in Boston and on line. I would say he is about the most useful teacher I found in songwriting so far as giving a guy a sense of how to go about one day writing one of them great songs. The idea is to develop a vocabulary of sense imagery and metaphor through exercises, and look at strategies of song development so that you take the listener on a journey.

lyrics

Alone
Words and Music by Michael Silverstone
©2013 Mr. Silverstone Music/ASCAP

Pink on blue
the sky, in glow
dusk resumes
its way, alone
salt air cakes my eyelids
night wind, cool across the sand.

Cactus stand
alone, alone
aching so
I know, I know
Stay here
just a moment
the road will
wait to take us home

Your hair’s alive in
the whipping wind
as highway cars blow by
I would give up anything
just to keep you
--in my life

Desert flowers
along the road
Hold you near
and watch you go
alone, alone
