about

After the fact, this melody of sounds like the style of Loudon Wainwright III to me, which I'm completely down with because of how he made room for actual human beings in music simply by coming to singing as-is and without appology--no "I Gave My Love a Cherry"--smooth-overs to high male nasality for him. He was my Patti Smith during the time of the actual emergence of Patti Smith. . .I was also probably influenced by the fact that when I first played it for anyone, it was in a fantastic singing class that Sloan, his sister, was leading, and I had this weird experience. You know how when you're a kid, you bat like your favorite baseball player, and you kind of imagine that you are them? I totally became my imagined version of Loudon, singing this at the same time I was myself, and it felt like while myself, I heard and matched my imagination's version of him, too coming right out of my singing body like a unison duet with the unseen.

By the way, this is the 100th original song I've recorded and posted on this site. If I make it to 1000, I'll buy myself some horses, if I only get digital royalties between now and then, they may have to be virtual horses..

Now my love
is running like a racehourse
While rounding
the track

But racers
have a way of tiring
When they reach
the back

When one
has won
but two
are done
And three
is a lonely
place

Our horses
traveling to courses
are sources
of change
No quarter
Should be given to the order
to stay home
today
But up
through the trees
There are none
of these
that compares
to the fair
and fine

And I know
We may be born and end alone
but I don’t believe in that for sure
I may not make
the same kind of mistakes
that now I only half
understand

Well my love
never said she wanted
what I couldn’t be
But it hurts me
And I can’t understand it
right now
But I know
it’s true
When our love
is new
There’s a time
that you can’t
do without
